The purpose of this blog is to serve as co-operative community archive of photos and commentaries regarding the natural history and the history of cultural development associated with Lake of Bays Lane in Dwight, Ontario, Canada. Bordering the eastern shore of Dwight Bay in the village of Dwight, at the north end of the beautiful Lake of Bays in the Muskoka district of central Ontario, Lake of Bays Lane is short on length, narrow in width but rich with nostalgia. It is hoped that friends and residents will contribute photos with relevant context that will provide a greater understanding and appreciation of the unique heritage that has made this place so special to so many people over the years.
Its a beautiful road to walk no matter what time of year.

Lake of Bays Lane is a short 0.7 km long ‘trespass road’ which means that the road is located on private property but year round maintenance has been assumed by the township. Consequently the road allowance does not conform to provincial standards as it is only 16 ft wide instead of the standard 66 ft width. As there are no shoulders, trees and shrubs grow adjacent to the gravel road bed, providing shade in summer and an intimacy that is appreciated by the strolling public. Perhaps that is why it was originally referred to as Lovers Lane. Many mature red and white pines that once bordered the lane were destroyed in a powerful wind storm that swept through this area on July 15th, 1995.
